Cleaning House

I don't know what it is about holiday breaks, but I am in a cleaning mood. No, this time it is not the house but straightening things up electronically. Needless to say that meant the Greyhaus Website.

Now, for those of you who have followed that site for some time, you will remember that I really focused my attention on craft building and what not over there. I have now moved that over to this site. Of course the Q and A for Scott was deleted on that site so questions should now be sent in this direction.

So, with that said, I want to open this up to a list of questions and topics that you would be interested in beginning a dialogue about (darn, I sound like a politician). You give me a list of things that are on your mind and I will work my way throught that list. Of course, as things come up along the way, I will certainly incorportate those thoughts into the discussion.

You get to dictate the discusions for a while! Let me know what you want to talk about!

Topics to be discussed soon...
- Schmoozing at Nationals
- More on Category
- What agents and editors really want to see
- Web presence for the unpublished.

Off to read some submissions now!

Scott

  1. lol--I love the whole schmoozing at Nationals thing. (along with the free eats at the Harlequin spotlight. They have cookies! And egg salad sandwiches, and little bags of FREE popcorn! And sometimes there are chocolate things in the goodie room :)

Is there any way you could talk about what you see as the next big trends, are paranormals slipping a little? Are the hotter romances cooling off, or getting even more out there, and do you think historicals are coming back or moving to more exotic locations?

And for the category stuff? How do you think Harlequin feels about "exotic" locales? They say they're okay with it, but what I see is a lot of Australia, the south pacific (by way of australia) and generic places that could be anywhere. Do you think the focus on the characters and tight plot exclude off beat locales, or that someplace new and different would add another layer?

And for a friend, (really :) do you think the market for funny mysteries with multi-ethnic characters is "mainstream contemporary romance" or would she stand a better chance marketing it toward one of the multi-ethnic lines, even if the voice is not ethnic, simply the characters?

And...for another friend (I guess this plays into the trend thing) IS there a market for fantasy romances, with a grittier mage-feel closer to uhm...Luna? That's not Luna?

    (thank you)

    :)

  2. I would like to know what your thoughts on writers who are epublished verses traditionally published writers.

Would you be more interested in an author who's got a few epublishing sales verses someone who's not published at all?
