Remember your Theme

I have spoken with a lot of authors in the last two days about their books and I want to give you all a quick reminder to remember your theme. What is the one thing that you want your readers to leave the story with. This is especially true when it comes to women's fiction.

In the case of these stories, we want character driven, not plot driven stories. Remember, women's fiction is gender communications. In female communications, the focus is on the person and with male communications, it is about the action and the thing you are focusing on. Therefore, in a women's fiction story, the events that happen in the protagonist life are just things that get the reader to understand one more thing about what it takes to be a woman.

  1. Whoa. Finally, a real definition of what women's fiction might be, and it is a doozy. Men are about action and women are about...talking?
I hardly know where to start when this applies to writing, but it does not look good. I thought strong women were what everyone wanted right now.
Thanks for the word, even though I have no idea what to do with this gem.
Hope you are having a great time at the conventionn.
Where is Angelina Jolie when I need her? Just...talking?
