During the week of Nov. 21-25, I will be taking a break from blogging. It is time for me to spend some time with my family.
But, with that said, it is time for a little contest.
The winner will receive a critique of a synopsis of a story.
Using the following picture, write the first line of a potential story. Hook me. Show me something special!
Post response here in the comments section. I will select the top entry after Turkey Day! Entries must be posted by Nov. 25th. Anything posted after that will not be counted. Sorry, but rules are rules. (Besides, it is my contest).

ReplyDeleteThere was no going back now; either Cassie had ruined it forever with Jason or he'd have second thoughts about making her available to other men.
ReplyDeleteLeaning back to receive Nick's quick kiss, Susan heard Rob's sharp intake of breath.
ReplyDelete"Um, guys? You might want to see this. I think something's coming, and it doesn't look good."
Countless wounds, some fresh and puckering red, some ancient and festering, dotted the unshielded plane of her back, but it only took one kiss, one second of unaccustomed warmth as his chest pressed against the lesions, to heal each completely and send the memory of those that’d hurt her dissolving into the coming night.

ReplyDeleteStealing a kiss requires the same level of planning as any theft, thought Paco, as his lips found Lilah’s.
ReplyDeleteThe ruse had been her idea, so she closed her eyes and yielded to the stranger’s kiss as she listened for her cue, hearing nothing but the sound of his breath and her own heart beating.
ReplyDeleteWhile Jeremiah sucked half the face off the first girl who walked past and was caught completely off guard but not completely opposed, I did for the last time what, up until now, I've always done--I waited.

ReplyDeleteDisappointment hit Jake hard in the gut. He'd wasted half an hour of his life chatting up the hot blonde as they'd watched the band jam on a slow blues. She could have given him the heads up she had a girlfriend!
ReplyDeleteCameron watched over Portia as his brother took her in his arms and kissed her, the same brother who'd murdered him in a hail of gunfire, turning him into the very worst kind of spirit.
ReplyDeleteAfter years of skirting the truth, turning a blind eye to Mick's platonic infatuation with the opposite sex, Ashton sensed, rather than saw, that all the ugly sweaters and ratty t-shirts in the world were no match for a little black dress.
ReplyDeleteKara felt the sensation she’d been waiting for her whole life – that "I’ve finally found him”. What was she thinking? It was like his whole being wanted her – she could feel it to the tips of her toes.
ReplyDelete"Cut! Christ." Blade stalked forward. "You're her bodyguard Ryan. Are you waiting for her to autograph his tonsils? Don't wait for think music. Take him out!" Jen gripped her prop, proximity to her director turning her hands increasingly sweaty.
ReplyDeleteThough the first rule of being a “Brother Husband” was not to allow jealousy to invade his heart, as Clint watched his wife kiss her latest conquest he couldn’t resist his urge to gut-punch the guy.

His cold lips brushed hers and his fingers, skeletal and unforgiving, dug into the back of her neck. In the world of the undead, Naomi was learning death and desire were intricately and passionately linked.
ReplyDeleteSo that's how it was. He took a deep breath, forcing down his anger. They hadn't seen him. He had time to walk away and decide what to do. He could pretend nothing had happened. He could confront her later in the apartment and force her to choose. There was a third option, of course.
ReplyDeleteClint was glad he gave her herpes.

ReplyDelete"Ugh, you again," thought Jenny's lips.
He couldn't let their last meeting end with her walking away angry. Before she was out of arm's reach, he grabbed her for a regretful goodbye kiss.

ReplyDeleteThis is the third time this week my sister has been accosted by a stranger in a cowboy hat; I wonder if dad's headline and our family picture had anything to do with it.
ReplyDeleteJulie’s lips were the world’s only source of antigen, but she knew her husband would never forgive her—even if it meant saving mankind.
ReplyDeleteLandon may be his "boyfriend", but I knew better.
