Midweek Discussion

This is a simple one for today...

What type of character do you like in books you read? What are the characteristics of that great hero or heroine?

  1. I love the misunderstood "bad boy" with a good heart and quick wit, and the snarky, independent heroine. Cliche, I know, but when they're done well, they're addicting. :)

  2. I agree with Lynn... He should be a little jaded (or more than a little jaded) and stoic with a sharp tongue-- all to cover a crushing vulnerability. And a strong, quick-witted heroine who holds her own with ease, but isn't perfect. Flawed but never weak. Sooo sick of the clumsy average looking heroine who bumbles her way through life as a victim.

Not cliche!! The tragic hero is classic... even classical! Embrace it! :-)

  3. I love flawed characters. Nobody's perfect in real life, and characters shouldn't be either. They can try to be, and the way a character does so makes a story all the more interesting.

  4. Characters that I can relate to! That's a bit general, I know, but as long as I can relate to the character in some way, then I'll get pulled into the book just that much more.
