Alien Vampire Bunny Contest For 2013

Several years ago, I created the Alien Vampire Bunny Contest here at Greyhaus. The idea stemmed from a conversation I had with the late Kate Duffy during a panel discussion. At that time, she said she would pretty much look at any project, however, there was no way she would ever look at a story about Alien Vampire Bunnies. I jokingly said I would find her a story one day. O.K. I haven't yet.

To honor the work of Ms. Duffy, I created the contest.

I will have more details up on the website shortly, but this is a great place to launch the idea and get you thinking.

THE CONTEST:
Authors will write three pages of an Alien Vampire Story. This year, the three pages do not have to be the first three pages of the story, simply any three pages. Those three pages have to showcase the Alien Vampire Bunnies.

This year, I am creating three categories: Historical, Steampunk, New Adult. Stories must also showcase the voice and style of that particular genre of writing.

I should also note that writers cannot simply call a group of people Alien Vampire Bunnies (for example, a gang or a club)..

There can be only one entry for a writer.

When submitting, the format will be as follows:

  • 12 pt. Times New Roman
  • Double Spaced
  • Rich Text Format
Writers will submit with the story itself

  • Title
  • Genre
  • 2-3 sentence blurb about the potential book.
Submissions will be open on Oct. 1 and will run throughout Oct. 31.

I will have one winner from each of the genres. However, to do so, I will need to have at least 5 entries for each of the genres. Should the number be less, then I will combine the categories and announce only one winner.

The winner of the contest will receive a written critique and phone conversation of a partial of one of their other works. That would be roughly 3 chapters.

Again, more information will be posted on the website later. (Still waiting to get my computer back from the shop). At that time, the email about where to send the submissions will also be available.
