Family Gatherings Today Will Be Great Story Starters

Successful writers never take a break. Even if they aren't sitting at their computers working on the latest "work-in-progress" their minds are still thinking about their craft. I do believe, however, that many of you will be putting those stories away during the holiday, and that, in my humble opinion, is a big mistake!

Now don't get me wrong. I am not advocating for a 3-5 hour disappearing act to the office to work on the story (although if the family is getting on your nerves, then maybe run!). I am, instead, recommending to keep your eyes and ears open today. For writers of any relationship type of story, be it romance or women's fiction, the holiday season is a perfect time to find those story nuggets, those great scenes, and the perfect lines.

Keep a notebook in your back pocket today. People will say things that might be perfect lines for your characters either in that book you are working on, or a future book. You'll see looks and smiles that need to be captured for future use. It's these small moments that you spend hours trying to craft when you are writing, but for today, these will be gifts from heaven.

You have to pay attention though. I can guarantee these nuggets be appearing ALL day and if you aren't paying attention, you will miss them.

If you had an unbelievably wonderful image or line today, tell us! Share!

And happy Turkey Day. I'm off to fire up the smoker, AFTER a morning swim practice and a morning ride at the stables with the older two kids.
