What Agents Can Do For You

There is always a lot of talk by authors who proclaim there is no need for an agent. You know something? That is entirely true. There are indeed a lot of writers who, because of what they write, or the direction they want to take with their writing, really have no need for an agent. We are here if you need us and want us, but it is certainly not something you need to be successful in publishing.

But what do we do for you?

Obviously we represent your books to the publishers and help with the contract and business side of things. But, we do a lot more.

We are critique partners...
We are there when you need us to read your stories before they go out to contests and editors. Because we are talking to editors, we can often shape stories to better fit those needs.
We are plotters...
We come up with story ideas for you. Every now and then, we get this great story concept so we call our writers and bounce the idea off of them. Sometimes the ideas work. Sometimes, it was just a "shot in the dark".
We are shoulders to cry on...
It isn't always about business. Someone gets sick in your house and you need to talk - we are there. Troubles with kids - we will listen. Get a rejection letter or a bad review? We are there to tell you we still believe in you.
We are your support group...
We are there as that resource when you need something. This is sort of that misc. category.
We are here to cheer you on when you have those small victories...
We follow you on Facebook and when you do something amazing, we cheer you on. We all need that cheer squad on your side.
We are your discussion boards to share ideas...
This connects with that plotting side of things but sometimes you need a quick answer. I just answered one on pen names for an author. Because you are a client, we often get back to you quicker than if you post it on those general discussion boards.
We are that coffee buddy at conferences...
Big conference and you need a friendly face? That's what we are here for!
