Your Story Will Have Hiccups, But Don't Panic

I know you have heard that saying that in life, the only certainties are death and taxes (or something like that). I do want to add in one more to this list. I promise that your stories will run into problems. You WILL hit roadblocks and points when you simply want to throw the whole thing out and start over.

I Promise!

But... this is not a time to panic. The reason for this is simple. Right at that moment, you are just too close to your story. You have put everything into it and you are writing with blinders on.

The simple truth is that you need to give the story a rest. Now I am not saying to stop for weeks on end. Take a break. Go and do something else. And most important of all, go and talk to someone.

The process of talking to someone else is to rip those blinders off and hear the story from another point of view. Their thoughts on the plot, the character or that roadblock might not be the exact answer you wanted, but it will be enough to get you through this mess.
