Authors - Please Read What Editors and Agents Post Online

OK, it is venting time!

Over the last several days, I have gotten more posts of authors who seem to be clued out to the world. These are authors submitting projects I do not acquire. Authors who send emails noting they don't know what I acquire. Authors who submit, from my website asking what they need to submit. This also connects to my prior vent about the individual who was charging people to submit their query letters for them and complaining that there were simply too many sites to look up

The list goes on and on.

The simple truth is that ALL OF US post very clear information.

  • We tell you what we acquire.
  • We tell you what we DO NOT acquire.
  • We tell you what to submit to us and in what format.
  • We tell you our likes and dislikes.
  • We tell you how much time it will take to get back to you.
What does it take? Reading skills!

If you want to know why so many editors and agents have take the approach of "No answer is a no" is simply because of this. We are tired of writing the same answer over and over again. In fact, there are days when I have to control my temper and not write. "Are you an idiot? Can you not read?"

But no, I am a professional and will not do that.

Quit complaining that getting noticed by an editor or agent is too hard and too complicated. Like anything in this world. things will not simply be handed to you. You as an author have to do your work too.

I want you all to understand that we are all ACTIVELY looking for great authors. We are not trying to stop you from publishing. We want to read your writing. We want to publish great books. I know there are those people out there who try to convince you all that publishing is only for a select group of people and that the publishers and agents are not open to new and unique things.

Sorry to say this, but these are the individuals looking for short cuts, looking for the free ride, and have not taken the time to do their homework.

Trust us. We are here for you. But today, your task is to READ what we have posted.

  1. Thank you for the reminder. I am querying now and trying to be careful about not annoying any agent with a query they don't want. E.g. I won't pretend my cozy mystery is women's fiction and query you! LOL!
