Writing Is Not Easy

There are certainly going to be days when you find that the words you want to say simply do not flow onto that pad of paper, or to the computer screen. Don't worry, it will come eventually. But, there is a different element that I want to focus on today when we talk about how and why writing isn't easy.

As a professional writer, you can no long approach the business from a simple hobby approach. This is work which means that you have to work on your craft EVERY day. You have to learn and grow as a writer. What's so difficult about this is that sometimes, you have to realize that maybe you don't know everything. Maybe your story really is a piece of garbage. Now, if you took your writing as a hobby, you would simply throw it away. As a professional, however, you have to find a way to move on and make it work.

Writing is about human emotions and expressing what is deep down inside of you. This means exposing yourself to the world.

Certainly not something many people can do.

Enjoy your weekend.

  1. Yes, writing is a hard business and some days are harder than others. My biggest problem is having the internet to run to when I should be staying away from it. I will have to unplug myself and concentrate on the writing.
I have lots to do and have to remove myself from it all.

  2. One technique is to just turn off the internet. The other thing is to go to a location w/o wireless. Many of my authors do this and are very successful with it.

  3. I have to keep reminding myself: If it doesn't sell, it's not wasted time. It's practice and growth.

And possibly unrecognized genius. But I save that for when I'm REALLY stuck.
