We all know the expression, "The only thing constant is change." While we try to do our best to comfort ourselves with that statements, and some may even be out there saying the love change, it is one of those things that simply is not something we like to deal with. We love going to that same vacation spot year after year. We eat the same food. Even in school, we often chose the same seat over and over. We like things the same.
And yet change happens. It does happen and it will continue to happen.
I got up this morning and checked the email like I always do (Make coffee, turn on news, check email... see, I hate change too), and sure enough the publishing world demonstrated once again that change will happen. One of my great Greyhaus authors emailed me to say she has a new editor. But get this. She just got this new editor a couple of weeks ago when she lost the prior editor (who she had for I want to say about a year). They got through one round of edits on a book and I think that was it.
Is this frustrating? Yes. Is this something that you can deal with? You better believe it, because there is one thing that is not changing - you and your writing.
Your voice and your writing is still going to be a constant. Sure, the guidance from the editor may be different, but your voice will stay the same.
Take a deep breath, great this new editor with a smile and make them feel welcome. Think of it this way, that editor too had to make a change and now have to pick up where someone else left off. She may be equally as nervous.
