Dory Is Right

 

A couple of days ago, my son (along with a ton of colleges around the nation) were participating in a day of giving, where they were fund raising for their schools. Athletic programs in particular really benefited from programs such as this, and if you are an alumni of a school that did this, I certainly hope you helped out. I know we did, not just with the school he is currently coaching at, but also with the school he graduated with. 

But that is not what today is about.

It is about Dory, or should I say, her most famous quote, and something that every writer out there should live by. And you all know it "Just keep swimming."

I wrote about this a couple of days ago and I am going to stress it again. You simply cannot give up. You have to keep trying, even when you think it is over. Today, for example, I was back at it, still fighting for one of my authors. We are still digging for a couple of fantastic stories out there. The feedback from editors has been great, but we have gotten comments, of "we are having a hard time selling it." AND YET...

When I get on sites of recent acquisitions, editors are buying those types of books... so maybe, just maybe there is still life out there and we just have to keep pushing. 

This is probably the hardest part of being an agent. We believe as much in our authors and their writing as the author does. And, unfortunately, in this business, there are not promises. Sometimes, it is simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time. But, we do not give up!

So, with that said, I am off on some new quests. Quests for my current authors and quests for new and exciting authors.
