Presentation Matters - Another SHARKTANK Lesson

As most of you know, I love watching Shark Tank. Last night, someone lost all of the sharks for one simple reason. The guy's presentation sucked! It was awful. The product, the sharks thought had potential, but due to the presentation, they just gave up on him.

For most writers, this is the reason your query letters get rejection letters and your pitches yield zero results.

Instead of going on and on about the things you should do, or to list all of the bad things people have done, I am simply going to give you one technique.

Listen to your pitch or read your query letter as if this was the first time you had read it or heard it. You have no clue who you are.

Will you sign this person?

I don't care about your story. I don't care about your passion. Would you sign this person?

That first impression says it all! We know that statistically, employers decide within 6 seconds of seeing you for an interview if they are going to not offer that job to you. We know employers only look at those cover letters and resumes for 30 seconds and a minute at the most.

So, again... Would you sign you as an a new client just on that initial impression? What does that first impression really say about you?
