You Will Have Bad Days

Every day will not be a perfect day. That I promise you. In fact, I had hoped my break this week would have been full of sunshine so I could get out in the yard and get work done. Nope... this is my view this morning....

And yes, that is how your writing days are going to be. You will have deadlines looming and find yourself sitting in front of your computer with no words going into that story. You will wake up in the morning wanting to write and then find your schedule filled with family needs and never even get near the computer. You will feel amazing about yourself, only to read a review from someone who just did not like your last story, or an editor or agent who just passed on your last proposal.

In other words, life happens.

So, what do you do?

Get over it. Go have a cookie. Go for a walk. Dust yourself off and get going. Know that this happens to everyone and you are no different than the rest.

Look, it is going to be a bit of a set back, but maybe that is just what you needed to get a reset on your story. I don't know about you, but when I am not working on my writing or something academic, that is when I come up with my best ideas. My father-in-law and I always said, we came up with the best curriculum ideas for the classroom in the middle of the sermons during church services. Come on, isn't that what the paperwork is for when they hand it to you when you walk in? To take notes for those great ideas you come up with?

As for me, I have cleaned the kitchen, gotten a few projects done this morning, sorted some things on the computer and I now have things sorted in my head so I am ready to get going.

Now, you go and do the same thing. But, don't forget to grab a cookie or two before you sit down. Cookie Monster says so!
